POSITION : Mechanic Supervisor
STATUS: Full-time – M-F/40 hrs per week (some evening and weekend hours may be needed; on-call for road emergencies)
REPORTS TO: Transit Director
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS: Non-Exempt/Classified Civil Service
WAGE: $35.00/hour
SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Mechanic Supervisor Position is to directly supervise the performance of Mechanics as well as to provide preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair vehicle problems. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for implementing the facility maintenance plan and keeping up with facility maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervisory-
· Provides direct supervision to Mechanics and trains if needed.
· Trains new and current employees, including proper use of tie-downs, pre-and post vehicle inspections, completing maintenance requests and other vehicle maintenance and safety issues as required.
Vehicle Maintenance-
· Orders automotive parts for OCTA and contract agencies, as applicable.
· Maintains stock of inventory for OCTA and contract agencies, as applicable.
· Diagnoses and repairs OCTA and contract agency vehicles
· Performs Preventative Maintenance on OCTA and agency Vehicles
· Determines if a vehicle is safe to drive.
· Cleans vehicles.
Building and Grounds Maintenance-
· Performs building maintenance and grounds keeping duties according to the Facilities Maintenance Plan, including snow removal and other work in inclement conditions.
General-
· Prepares vehicle specifications for bidding and/or grant writing.
· Possesses a working knowledge of Operations, Finance and Maintenance and is able to ensure the responsibilities of the Transit Manager and Transit Director are being accomplished during their absence.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Transit Director.
· Possesses a positive commitment and a passion for the mission and vision of the Ottawa County Transit Board.
· Adheres to policies and standards as adopted by the County, contract agencies, and other governmental bodies as appropriate.
· Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material accessed.
· Maintains appearance of the office, vehicles, and own appearance in such a manner as to enhance the prestige and dignity of the department.
· Represents OCTA to the public in a positive manner.
· Maintains a cooperative relationship with co-workers, agencies, and administration.
· May be required to lift, carry, move, and secure wheelchairs and passengers.
· Assists passengers who exhibit behaviors that could result in physical injury and/or exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
· Attends professional development workshops, seminars and conferences.
· Subscribes to industry publications and listservs to stay informed of trends and current events in the field.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training
· Five years experience supervising vehicle and facility maintenance operations.
· Valid State of Ohio driver license with a Class B passenger and airbrake endorsement.
· Completion of vocational training in automotive mechanics at high school level or equivalent automotive/diesel mechanics training and two years experience in a position similar to an Automotive Mechanic.
General Requirements-
· Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
· Must pass criminal background check.
· May not be listed on the Ohio Abuser Registry.
· Must be fit for duty.
Skills, Knowledge and Personal Characteristics-
· Sight, hearing, smell, and physical ability to perform duties of mechanic.
· The maintenance supervisor and mechanics work in an environment which can be dangerous, requires protective gear and which requires great physical stamina. The maintenance supervisor must be willing and able to:
· Must have personal tools to perform duties.
· Ability to read and comprehend instructions in order to perform bill procedures, safety practices, maintain inventory records, supervisory functions such as assigning work, approving vacation time, conducting performance appraisals,
· Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and mechanical equipment.
· Oral Communications.
· Complete forms, reports and maintenance records.
· Read maps and follow verbal directions to get to the location of a vehicle breakdown.
